A good move is not just about the job title.

A better job title does not always mean a better move. And a higher salary does not always mean a better fit.

In architecture, house building and construction, career decisions are often more complex than they look from the outside. Candidates are not only asking:

“What is the salary?” They are also asking:

Will I be working on the right kinds of projects? Will I get progression, or just more responsibility? Is the leadership team stable?

Will the culture suit how I work? Is the commute realistic?

Will the business still be the right fit in two years? Does this move actually take me where I want to go?

That is why recruitment should never just be about matching a CV to a vacancy. A candidate may look perfect on paper and still be wrong for the role.

Equally, someone may not tick every box but could be exactly the right long-term appointment because their motivations, values and potential align with the business.

For employers, this means the conversation needs to go deeper than experience alone.

For candidates, it means being honest about what they really want from the next stage of their career. The best recruitment decisions happen when both sides understand more than the job description.

They understand the fit. The timing.

The ambition.

And the reality of what comes next.
